Fusion Air Purge Trouble Shooting

This article features a selection of common problems with the Fusion AP spray gun along with the cause and solution.

SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Gun does not fully actuate when triggered. Safety lock engaged. Disengage safety lock
Plugged muffler Clean
Damaged air valve o-rings Replace
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Fluid does not spray when gun is fully actuated. Closed fluid valves Open
Plugged impingement ports Clean
Plugged check valves Clean
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Gun actuates slowly. Plugged muffler Clean
Damaged piston o-rings Replace
Dirty air valve, or damaged o-rings Clean air valve or replace o-rings
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Gun delays, then actuates abruptly. Cured material around side seals Inspect side seals and mix chamber for scratches. Replace
Retaining ring not bottomed out Tighten retaining ring until bottomed out
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Loss of round pattern. Dirty mix chamber nozzle Clean
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Loss of flat pattern. Plugged spray tip Clean in compatible solvent
Worn tip Replace
Dirty mix chamber nozzle Clean
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Leakage between flat tip and mix chamber. Damaged side seals Replace
Damaged mix chamber Replace
Damaged side seal o-rings Replace
Tightened air cap with fluid valves open Close valves first
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Fluid mist from mix chamber or air cap. Damaged side seals Replace
Damaged side seal o-rings Replace
Damaged mix chamber Replace
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Excessive overspray. Too much cleanoff air Reduce
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Rapid buildup of material on air cap. Plugged air cap holes Clean
Too little cleanoff air Increase
Damaged/missing fluid housing o-ring Replace
Damaged front o-ring Replace
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Reduced cleanoff air. Damaged front o-ring Replace
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Excessive cleanoff air when fluid valves are closed and gun is triggered. Damaged/missing fluid housing o-ring Replace
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Fluid does not shut off when fluid valves are closed. Damaged fluid valves Replace
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Burst of air from muffler when gun is triggered. Normal No action required
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Steady air leakage from muffler. Damaged air valve o-rings Replace
Damaged piston o-rings Replace
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Air leakage from front air valve. Damaged air valve o-rings Replace
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Air leak around lock ring. Damaged o-ring Replace
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Cannot tighten retaining ring until it bottoms out. Air cap assembled before retaining ring Install retaining ring first, then air cap
