FLUSHING YOUR
SPRAY GUN |
| Have you ever left your spray gun on the hose and let your equipment sit for a few days only have the gun plug up instantly when you go to use it the next time? There is an easy way to prevent that from happening in the future. |
| || THE PROBLEM |
| The most common cause is the A-side or isocyanate crystallized in one of the fluid passages and when you pulled the trigger the gun crossed over. Now you get to spend the first part of day cleaning up the mess, not fun. |
| The isocyanate reacts with moisture, drawing it out of the air, it will cure and harden in the small passages in the spray gun preventing proper material flow. This requires the gun to be disassembled and the hardened isocyanate to be cleaned it out of the small passages in the gun. Over time parts need to be replaced because they get damaged during the cleaning, scraping and drilling process that ensues. |
| || THE SOLUTION |
| Rather than letting the chemical harden in the gun there is a simple way to prevent it from happening. All you need is a flush pot. A flush pot is a metal canister with a coupling block and a short hose that attaches to the gun in place of the hose manifold. |
| Simply fill the container 2/3 full with a mild plasticizer, like our Pump Fluid or Graco TSL, at least 1/3 of the container must be empty so it can be pressurized with air. Connect the flush manifold to the gun and disengage safety lock. All it takes is a 10-second pull of the trigger and all of the fluid passages are purged clean. Then remove the flush manifold and re-attach gun to the hose manifold. |
| Every spray foam insulation rig should have a flush pot assembly. Countless gun problems can be prevented by simply flushing your gun at the end of every day, this is even more important if your equipment will sit unused for more than 3 days. |
